You are loved.

Everyone we have ever known, everything we have ever learned, every place we have ever been and every experience we have ever had would not have happened if it were not for our birth.

We can say the same thing about Jesus.  His crucifixion took all the sin of the world on his own shoulders as a sacrifice and offering unto God. His Resurrection, the day Our Lord walked out of that tomb, proved to his disciples and to the world his true identity and the power of God over sin and death. Everything that Jesus did in his earthly Ministry was of immense importance, but all of them depend first on his birth.

Who really likes waiting? But a big part of our faith is learning to wait on the Lord.  Israel is used to waiting. 

We can read stories in scripture that span years, decades or even centuries in just a few verses or a chapter. It’s easy to gloss over the time the events took: years, decades, even centuries can pass by rather quickly. Sometimes it is helpful to keep the timeline in mind.

Rejoice: Your Lord has come and is coming.

Oh, we need Craig Merson about now. He really has John the Baptist down. Meg and I were settling into the pageant last week, familiar hymns, the Gospel narration, the kids, then Boom in come Craig.  He’s big, his voice is booming and he brought it. He startled us, I literally jumped. It was perfect because the call of John the Baptist to repentance is bold. It is confrontational. It is booming. He is crystal clear about our role and our responsibility to God.
