Father Tom and Stephen Leader Nancy Gossard commissioned five new Stephen Ministers on May 25th: Paula Templeton, Barbara von Windeguth, Jack Langford, Jessica Bray and Anna Seitz.

Stephen Ministers receive fifty hours of training and normally meet for an hour each week with a parishioner who has agreed to be referred by Father Tom, Joanie Brawley or John Motis, each of whom is a trained leader, in addition to Nancy Gossard.

Several parishioners asked for Chip Thullbery's recipe for the delicious ham strata that was served on Rally Sunday.

Ham Strata

1/2 pound sliced ham, cut into small squares
1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
6 slices white bread, crusts removed
1 tsp. Dijon mustard
3 eggs
2 cups half & half
1/2 tsp. salt
Dash of pepper
Paprika (optional, for color)

Place bread in single layer on bottom of casserole dish. Stir together ham and mustard and sprinkle evenly over bread. Sprinkle shredded cheese over ham. Beat together eggs, half & half, salt, and pepper. Pour over cheese. Sprinkle paprika over top (optional) for color. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes or until set. Serves 8.

Of Wolves and Weeds

Posted July 20th, 2014

By The Rev. Joan Brawley

For centuries, the grey wolf was the feared master of what would become Yellowstone National Park. This clever, aggressive menace targeted primarily elk and deer, but when food became scarce, there was not much wolves did not terrorize and devour. They were responsible for so much carnage that, with intentional planning, by 1926, the grey wolf was hunted down, and completely eradicated from Yellowstone. By human design, the brutal bane of Yellowstone was finally gone.

But, over the next 70 years, the park began to change in alarming, unhealthy ways. Animal populations shifted, vegetation changed; scientists were noticing decline and vulnerability throughout Yellowstone’s complex and vast eco-system.
