I have always had, in the back of my mind, a desire to find a case which I could make into a communion kit. I already had all of the contents, but I had nowhere to keep everything. In my mind it needed to be large enough to hold a bottle of consecrated wine, a small bread box of consecrated hosts, a paten, a small chalice, and an oil stock for anointing the sick, along with a linen corporal and purificator, a small wooden cross, a hospital stole and the Sunday readings.

We're getting ready for Vacation Bible School 2010, where kids join forces with God! We have set our dates for June 14th - June 18th from 5-8 p.m. each evening. This is the week after school gets out for the summer. Paige Turner has graciously offered to be our Director for the third year in a row, and she needs your help! Please attend our first VBS planning meeting on Wednesday, February 24th from 5-6 p.m. in the parish hall parlor. We need help in many areas, including food, crafts, singing, play time, and group leaders. Hope to see you there!

Lee Cobb performed J.S. Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor at the organ dedicatory recital on November 5th. Click to listen to a rough MP3 recording.

The title of this article sounds like a riddle or a joke, but it’s no laughing matter that without many non-Episcopal “Friends,” Good Shepherd Thrift Shop wouldn’t be open for business five days a week because of a lack of volunteers. In its early history, only members of Church of the Good Shepherd worked in the store. But now this enterprise would really be history if it weren’t for the help of our non-Episcopal friends. Here’s a heartfelt salute to those Friends of Good Shepherd who make a weekly commitment to help our outreach mission in the community and in Santa Maria, Honduras.

Reflections on Paul's "Untimely Birth"

Posted February 7th, 2010

By Fr. Tom Seitz

“Last of all, as to one untimely born, the risen Lord also appeared to me.”

I don’t think I’ve ever tried to preach the gospel in the context of abortion before, but today is an appropriate day to do so for several reasons.

First of all, the word that Paul uses to describe himself in his first letter to the Corinthians this morning has been translated as ‘an untimely birth.’ This Greek word was used and can also be translated as a miscarriage, or a deliberate abortion. And according to Paul’s own testimony, he certainly understood that what happened to him on the road to Damascus was a deliberate, and in some sense, a violent and unnatural act of God, and not an accident or merely an internal, psychological event.
